Urban gulls are protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act

Urban gulls are protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. So culling can only be undertaken if there’s a threat to public health and safety or to aircraft. Pest control treatment must focus on deterring the birds. Humane netting, ledge spikes, non toxic gels, clearing walkways and ledges of fouling are effective in managing any nuisance gulls.
