May 13, 2010 Amazing Grace! Grace Abbott, Dyno-Pest technician is not a woman to let fear stand in the way of a challenge. So when she saw an advert on the London Underground from the Mine Advisory Group, (a charity that supports the victims of landmines), asking for volunteers to abseil down the side of Battersea Power Station to raise funds, she decided to give it a go. Ironically Grace is more than familiar with the inner workings of Battersea Power Station; Dyno-Pest is responsible for ensuring that this iconic London landmark is kept pest free. To her delight Grace was supported by Dyno-Pest, giving her a much-needed shot in the arm to raise funds for MAG. "I didn't feel nervous until the day of the abseil itself," says Grace. "However, it's fair to say that as I was making my way to the top of Battersea Power Station via the extremely precarious stairs I felt pretty terrified at the prospect of abseiling down the side of it." With the wind blowing her from side to side as she made the 100 foot drop abseil, and the rain making it impossible for her feet to grip the wall, Grace was elated to reach the bottom intact. Would she do it again? "Yes definitely. It was much scarier than I had anticipated. But whenever I'm scared about something, I find that the only way to get over the fear is to tackle it head on," she concludes.
Ralph Izod Dyno-Pest MD said, "I was delighted to support Grace and her charity and perhaps Grace might in the future consider becoming part of our bird control team as she has shown such fearlessness and aptitude for heights." |
