Fawlty Towers lives on

Shocking Statistics on hotel and restaurant hygiene revealed

A survey of 520 hotel and restaurant employees by Caterer and Hotelkeeper has revealed some worrying statistics.

33% said that their cleaning was not up to standard whilst 29% said that the restaurant at their establishment was not cleaned to a high standard.  14% said that the bedrooms were not up to scratch whilst perhaps the most worrying statistic of all - 35% said that their kitchen was not "always at a level of acceptable cleanliness.

Some of the employees interviewed even went so far as to reveal anecdotal stories that would not be out of place in an episode of Fawlty Towers.  One employee quoted a cockroach crawling out from under a lettuce leaf covered in salad cream, whilst another told of seeing a mouse staring out at them from the patisserie fridge

A spokesperson for Dyno-Pest commented "Whilst these results are troubling and the examples are pretty shocking, in our experience many of the hotels and restaurants in the Greater London area do have a high standard of cleanliness. However, there are no excuses for complacency.  An effective programme of pest prevention and control should always be at the heart of any hotel and restaurant’s hygiene, health and safety programme."
